Don't go chasing Waterfalls

For four years we have lived here, and not once have we been to see the waterfall up in the mountains. It is the longest waterfall in Cyprus... Bjay had the day off so we had a family outing to go on this wonderful hike. We packed a lunch and headed up the the Troodos Mountains. I don't know what I was expecting to be honest... but I wasn't expecting this. We parked the car, grabbed our lunch and walked up to the entrance. It stunk. Like a farm or something and there were chickens walking around all over the place. There was a man standing there he told us it would cost 16 Euro to enter (WHAT???? Are you kidding me????). Now for those of you who don't know, 16 Euro is about $25. So while sulking I headed back to the car to get money... we drove all this way I guess we might as well pay the man. Walking up to the gate there are pictures of people standing in front of the waterfall. Of course they are blown up and mostly of topless girls. Lovely. I had to cover Peyton's eyes, I couldn't reach Bjay's. As we walk in, there are cages of Chickens and Peacocks everywhere. That explains the smell. A little wierd too. There are signs posted on all the trees explaining what kind of tree's they were. Good to know I suppose. The "man made" trail was actually pretty cool. In the streams heading down to the waterfall we saw crabs. There was a man made wishing well, the kids each took a coin and made a wish. Peyton's was of course to be Spiderman, which then got him repeating over and over again the rest of the way down how he can't wait until he becomes Spiderman.
Once we get to the bottom there were a few bench's to sit on, and of course another family there with 3 or 4 kids running around naked, swimming in the little pond at the bottom. Pajha had to point and say "mommy, those kids are naked" a few times. And Peyton had to point out how glad he was that he wasn't going to swim in it since those kids probably peed in it anyway. We hung out a bit until the family left so that we could get some good pictures of the waterfall. All in all it was a fun time, was it worth $25? Not so much. But hey, we finally saw it. The whole 15 feet of it.

Oh my gosh I love it. Only in Europe are the simplest things so foul! We found a number of topless women in the backgrounds of nearly all our vaca beach shots... gotta love it.

Fun that you got to see the waterfall, crappy that the Euro to dollar sucks so bad.

BTW I nominated you for an award, check my blog.

I cannot believe you had to pay that much & hide little eyes from pictures just to see what is barely considered a waterfall:) I guess we should take a more optimistic approach & just be thankful for the experience of "living abroad" that your cute little family is having....nope, I'm not optimistic. How 'bout you?? I do love the picture of the family, though. Very cute!!

Optimism isn't my specialty that is for sure, but I am getting better. I guess the best part of being over here is that it has taught me to appreciate my own country sooo much more. You have no idea what it is like to live abroad until you do it. I tend to get really cranky and negative about this country but I guess after four years I am allowed right? I know one day I will look back and miss it! I am grateful for the experiences no matter how "strange" they are!
